Why One-Page Websites Don't Rank on Google

· 4 min read · By Omnidox

If your website is one long page, you're asking Google to rank a single page for everything you do. That's a losing bet, and it's the most common reason good local businesses sit on page two.

Google ranks pages, not businesses

When someone searches “water heater repair,” Google looks for the page that best answers that exact search. A homepage that mentions water heaters in one bullet, between drain cleaning and repiping, is a weak answer. A dedicated page about water heater repair is a strong one.

What a page per service gives you

  • A page that matches the exact words customers search
  • Room to explain the service, the process, the price range and the area you cover
  • A specific place to send customers from your Google profile
  • More chances to appear in search results, one for each service you offer

What to build

Start with a homepage that says who you are and where you work, then add one page for each service you actually want calls for. Add an about page, a contact page and a click-to-call button that works on a phone. That structure gives Google something to rank, and gives customers a clear next step.

This is exactly what our website rebuild does: real pages, one for every service, built mobile-first and yours to keep.
